Tae Kwon Do!

Missy requested a picture of Josh in his Tae Kwon Do uniform, so here he is. This is in one of classes this week where the kids were paired up and had to chase each other around a set of cones. Josh ran fast but took wide turns around the cones, so the other kid quickly gained ground on him. As you can see in the picture, Josh also likes to watch his Tae Kwon Do moves in the mirror, so that sometimes distracts him from the task at hand.

We've come a long way in our six weeks of Tae Kwon Do. I haven't posted about it because Chris and I were absolutely mortified the first week or so. The parents are allowed to sit in on the classes, and the first week Josh occasionally licked the big mirror (not a small lick--the kind of lick you give to a big lollipop), and once when I was there he yelled out "I have to go yucky!" (his terminology for poop) in the middle of the class. The parents burst out laughing on both occasions. I was not happy that we were providing the entertainment!

I sat in on another class this week, and I was amazed at Josh's progress. He now sits still with the other kids, follows the instructor's directions and has even learned some Korean words. He also says "Yes, sir" regularly, which I've been working on with him for two years. I think he may be close to being awarded the "Super Turbo Camo Belt," a camoflage belt that's given each week to a kid that does a good job. He was in the final two this week, and the instructor has told Chris that Josh is doing really well (considering his rough start). We've come to the conclusion that Tae Kwon Do is probably doing way more for Josh than the hours of therapy he gets each week.

Here's Josh in his uniform, holding a Tootsie Roll (the prize at the end of the class) in each hand. In the next picture, he's giving me some kind of Tae Kwon Do yell.
