The nice weather continued today, so we went to the U.S. National Whitewater Center to try "eco-caching" on their trail system. Now for you non-dorks, eco-caching is another name for geocaching, a "sport" that involves using a GPS to find "caches" (usually some sort of weather-proof box) that are hidden all over the world. At the Whitewater Center, each box contains a stamp for your eco-caching passport (issued at the center) and some educational material about the area's wildlife.The above picture is typical of geocaching: standing in the woods looking lost while peering at your GPS. The people at the Whitewater Center were very impressed that we had our own GPS and didn't need to rent one of theirs.
It ended up being a really fun day, and we were so proud of the kids. We hiked to the Catawba River, which provides all of the water for our region, and picnicked there after finding our third eco-cache box. Josh enjoyed the walk, and Molly only had one minor meltdown that was quickly fixed with some food. Both kids thoroughly enjoyed loudly greeting all of the mountain bikers and hikers we crossed paths with.
And for the record: Mom, both kids were wearing shoes for the entirety of this endeavor.

It's funny to me that although you can never get a "normal" photo of these two smiling at the camera, they are both so darn precious and photogenic! I love all the pictures of them on the blogs because we get to see the "real" Josh and Molly, both of whom are so beautiful inside and out!
Fun! We have to make this a "family" outing sometime with the Finks and myself! Please!!!!
